Small habits can make a big difference over time. It’s easier to make a change in your lifestyle and mindset when you start small, so here are 10 easy and effective habits to help you bring on the good vibes!
- Unfollow Instagram accounts that make you feel bad about yourself
Instead of telling yourself to cut down on Instagram screen-time (which is much easier said than done), you should just make sure that it’s a positive experience for you. Unfollow any accounts that push unrealistic standards your way and get with the good vibes instead!
- Drink a (big) glass of water first thing in the morning
Before doing anything else, drink a glass of water to start your day off right. Adding things like lemon or berries is a great way to get some antioxidants in your system too. Hydration is key to living your best life people!
- Listen to your favourite songs when you get ready for the day
Start your day with good vibes and play some of your favourite tunes to get you in the right mood. Not only does music put you in a good mood, but it also helps your brain to wake up in the morning. Jamming out while you get ready is great for your mental well-being and your brain functionality – it’s a win-win.
- Positive self-talk
The way we speak to ourselves can have a drastic effect on how we view the world. Try flipping your self-criticisms into positive and constructive thoughts to improve your self-esteem and confidence. Remember to be kind to yourself!
- Avoid working in bed
A PSA for anyone who works from home regularly: working in bed can actually affect your beauty sleep. When you work from your bed, it can often become more difficult to fall asleep since your brain will think you’re in a place of work. Keeping work out of the bedroom can help strengthen the mental association between your bedroom and sleep.
Make time to focus on your mental wellbeing with daily meditation. Meditate in the morning to clear your head for the day, or in the evening to unwind before bed. Meditation is good for your overall mental health as it reduces anxiety, stress and can even help with insomnia. YouTube has great free guided meditation videos, or apps such as Calm are great for helping you to get your zen on.
- Spend at least 10 minutes with the sun every day
These days, ‘sitting under the morning sun’ has become common health advice. This is because the molecules in your body that produce vitamin D are activated by the sun. Vitamin D is great for your bone health, reducing depression, and fighting disease. Take time out to soak up some morning sunshine to boost your health.
- Find a way to keep moving
It’s always best to try to incorporate as much movement throughout your daily routine as possible. Hate going to the gym? Try going for an afternoon walk instead. Hate getting up early to work out? Work out in the evenings. Try to find alternative solutions that fit into your lifestyle so that you can always find a way to keep moving.
- Keep your space clean by doing a little bit every day
If you hate to clean, break your living space down into one room/area per day. That way it’s not overwhelming and turns cleaning from a big project into a simple daily task. It’s easier to spend 10-20 minutes a day keeping things clean than it is to clean your entire place a couple of times a week.
- If it takes less than 5 minutes, do it now
This rule is a great way to trick yourself into doing all of the little things you put off because they seem kind of annoying in the moment. Small tasks like making your bed or hanging up your clothes can pile up without you even realising, taking up a lot of time when you finally get round to them. Avoid the big pile-up by adopting this rule and get the little things done sooner rather than later.
