As an avid lazy girl myself, I’ve figured out a couple of handy skincare tips that have saved me a lot of time and effort over the years. Your skin shouldn’t have to suffer because you’re feeling lazy, so here are a couple of skincare tips that all lazy girls should know:
1. Invest in a Micellar Water
Honestly, micellar water is the best thing since sliced bread. It gives your face a good quick cleanse and removes makeup all at once without being too harsh on your skin. For those days when you don’t feel like getting out your cleanser and doing a full cleanse, your micellar water can save the day*. I use mine every single night, regardless of whether I’ve had makeup on that day. I recommend the Garnier or Biorderma micellar water – as they are both super gentle on your skin and really gets all the gunk off your face.
*A gentle reminder that micellar water is not a replacement for your cleanser. This should be the first step in your routine to remove makeup, SPF, excess oil and so on from the day before going in with your actual cleanser.
2. Get yourself a microfibre face cloth
Everyone should have at least one microfibre face cloth in their kit. These are gentle facial towels that you can use to wash your face with warm water or to pat your face dry after cleansing. The ultra-thin fibres of these towels help to remove makeup and gently cleanse the skin using water only.
I like to have 2-3 towels in rotation as I throw them in the wash after 1-2 uses (if you can’t wait until laundry day, give them a quick wash with some soap and water in the shower!). It’s not always necessary to use a cleanser twice a day, so a good ol’ face cloth with some lukewarm water in the mornings is good enough!
Paired with a micellar water, these face cloths can be the lazy girl way of double cleansing. The micellar water can be used as the first step, followed by a warm face cloth to remove any last traces of makeup. I’ve also found that having these face cloths are great for rinsing off your cleanser or a face mask as it’s a less messy alternative to splashing your face over the sink. They’re also great for festivals and traveling!
3. Be careful when washing your face in the shower
If you prefer to wash your face in the shower, take caution when doing so. Be sure not to use hot water. You should be using lukewarm water. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oils and the heat can actually damage your cells. When you shower, keep your face tilted away from the water and switch over to a cooler temperature when washing your face. So if you’re lazy and only really like to wash your face in the shower, make sure to turn the temperature down.
4. Keep makeup wipes by your bedside table
While I don’t love makeup wipes in general, it’s good to keep them handy at your bedside table for those nights when you really couldn’t be bothered to wash your face. This can be a lifesaver when you’ve had one too many cocktails and your bed is just calling your name – rather use your makeup wipes than nothing at all (it’s okay, nobody is judging you).
5. Start your evening routine early
Most people do their night-time skincare routine right before bed. You get home, make yourself dinner and sit in your makeup all evening until you do your routine before bed. Sound familiar? Most of us do it. Instead, make a habit of doing your routine as soon as you get through the door. Let the active ingredients and all the good stuff in your products work their magic while you sit and watch Netflix. Something as simple as doing your routine a little earlier can make all the difference!
6. Apply hydrating products on damp skin
This is an ultimate lifesaver for those dealing with dry and/or dehydrated skin. Apply all hydrating products such as moisturisers and hyaluronic acid products to damp skin. Get yourself a facial mist or fill a spray bottle with water and give yourself a quick spritz before applying hydrating products. You’ll get way more out of your products this way, trust me!
7. Overnight Masks are Life-Changing
A face mask? That you can sleep in? Sign me up! Overnight masks are a lazy girl must. Let your products work their magic while you sleep and wake up with amazing, glowing skin. There are loads of amazing overnight masks that target different skin concerns: exfoliating masks, hydrating masks, acne-targeting masks – the list goes on!
