Sometimes, life gets a little busy and it’s easy to get caught up in little things. Here are some tried-and-tested Lazy Girl life hacks to help you make life a little easier.
1. Pick out your outfit the night before so that you can sleep in a little later
There’s nothing worse than spending half an hour in the mornings trying to figure out what to wear. Instead, in the evening before bed, check the weather for the next day and plan your outfit then. It’ll save you a nice chunk of time in the morning, meaning you can sleep in a little later.
2. Pre-make your breakfast so you can just grab it and go in the morning
While you’ve got time in the evenings, pre-make your breakfast for the next morning. This will save you time and ensure you eat a healthy, nutritious breakfast. When we’re in a rush, we tend to grab the quickest, easiest thing to make (which is often a bowl of sugary cereal) or skip breakfast altogether. By prepping your breakfast the night before, you can take the time to make yourself something hearty and nutritious to start your day right.
3. Listen to podcasts when stuck in traffic
Sitting in traffic can feel like a big waste of time. Make those hours count by listening to podcasts during that time. Here’s a list of podcasts every 20-something should listen to. You might even learn a thing or two!
4. Put your phone on airplane mode when you need to get things done
It’s so easy to get distracted by social media and texts on your phone while you need to get things done. Instead, put it on airplane mode and give contacts an alternative method to reaching you in case of an emergency (e.g. keep your email tab open or switch off your WiFi/data off and allow for phone calls only). Having no distractions from your phone will allow you to give your full and undivided attention to the task you need to get done.
5. Get up as soon as your alarm goes off
Get into the habit of getting up and out of bed as soon as your alarm goes off. Don’t waste time by sitting in bed and scrolling through Instagram. It eats up time and sets you up for a slow day. If you need to, put your phone on the other side of your room the night before so that you have to physically get up to switch off the alarm.
6. Do some quick exercises between TV episodes
The number one key is to keep moving. It’s so easy to sit and binge your favourite TV shows for hours on end, so make sure you take a break in between to keep moving. Any time a commercial comes on, or in between episodes, make sure you stand up and do some squats or jog on the spot. Build up the habit of moving around while watching TV.
7. If something takes less than 5 minutes, do it now
This rule is a great way to trick yourself into doing all of the little things you put off because they seem kind of annoying in the moment. Small tasks like making your bed or hanging up your clothes can pile up without you even realising, taking up a lot of time when you finally get round to them. Avoid the big pile-up by adopting this rule and get the little things done sooner rather than later.
8. Automatically send money to your savings account each month
The best way to save money is to automatically send a fixed amount of money to your savings account each month. Most financial experts say to save at least 10% of your monthly disposable income. It’s easier to practice self-control when the money is already put away and you don’t have quick access to it. Pretend it’s not there. Save all of that money for a rainy day. You’ll thank yourself later, promise.
9. Set your phone’s screensaver as a reminder to drink water
This is an easy way to get yourself into the habit of drinking more water. Often, we get so busy throughout the day that we just *forget* to stay hydrated. You can easily solve this problem by setting your screensaver as a reminder to drink water. Every time you lock or unlock your phone, you’ll remember to have a sip of water. All aboard the hydration station!
